The prominent Enoshima lighthouse and observatory deck called the Sea Candle is located at the center
of
the island of Enoshima. From the observatory deck, at a vertiginous 119.6m, splendid views of distant
seas and mountains are to be seen.
Enoshima Aquarium
Enoshima Aquarium is located on the shore across the bridge from Enoshima. The exhibits such as the
Sagami Bay Zone which recreates the bay of Enoshima, and the Jellyfish Fantasy Hall are unmissable.
Kotoku-in
The 11.35m tall Great Buddha of Kamakura meditates resplendent in Kotoku-in, Hase. The Great
Buddha is a popular highlight of many Kamakura excursions and is usually thronged with tourists and
pilgrims all year round. You can even enter inside the giant cast bronze statue.
Hasedera Temple
Hasedera Temple is located just minutes away from the shore above a hill overlooking the Shonan
coastline. With its rich natural setting, the scener is worth visiting especially during the rainy
season (around June) and at the fall of the autumn leaves (end of November to the beginning of
December). The statue of the Eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu is famous for its magnificent wood
craftsmanship.
Enoshima Shrine and Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise-dori Street
Enoshima Shrine is one of the three major shrines in Japan dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten. It
consists of three shrines: Hetsumiya, Nakatsumiya, and Okutsumiya. Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise-dori
Street is a historic shopping street that runs from the entrance of Enoshima to Enoshima Shrine. The
street is lined with inns, restaurants and souvenir stores, and is crowded with tourists.
Kamakurakokomae Station and Enoden
Kamakurakokomae Station with its railroad crossing is a famous location that has appeared in anime and
TV shows. The combination of the Enoden passing through the crossing and the sea makes this a popular
photo spot. From the station platform, you can see the ocean spread out in front of you.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the symbol of Kamakura, is located close to Kamakura Station. The beautiful
shrine buildings painted in red are the highlight of the visit, and its extensive garden grounds are
always popular with locals and tourists alike.
Komachi-dori Street
Komachi-dori Street located close to Kamakura Station is always very busy with tourists purchasing
souvenirs. You can find many miscellaneous Japanese goods and stylish articles.
Katase-Enoshima Station
Katase-Enoshima Station is designed in the image of "Ryugu-jo" or Dragon Palace. With a large jellyfish
tank installed in collaboration with the New Enoshima Aquarium, the station is lit up after sunset
according to the season.
Goryo Shrine
This is an old shrine dedicated to a military commander from the late Heian period. The torii gate of
Goryo Shrine stands right beside the Enoden crossing, and the view of Enoden seen through the torii gate
of Goryo Shrine is impressive.
Shichirigahama Beach
This is a scenic beach overlooking the mountains of Fuji, Hakone, and Izu, which is counted as one of
the 100 best beaches in Japan.It is also a spot where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Sasuke Inari Shrine
This shrine is famous as a spot to pray for promotion or success in life and is also known as "Shusse
Inari". The red banners and dozens of torii gates create a mystical atmosphere.
Enoshima Iwaya Cave
This cave was created by wave erosion. Inside the cave, you can enjoy the mysterious sound and lighting
effects, ukiyoe woodblock prints of Enoshima, and objects based on the legend of Tennyo and the Five
Dragons.
Jojuin Temple
This temple, dedicated to the deity of marriage, is said to be the best place for matchmaking in
Kamakura.After climbing 108 steps, you can see the spectacular view of Yuigahama from the top of the
mountain.
Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine
This shrine is the best money-luck spot in Kamakura. It is said that if you wash your money in the
sacred water that gushes from the cave on the shrine grounds, your fortune will improve and the money
will come back to you many times over.
Houkokuji Temple
This temple is famous for its bamboo grove located behind the main hall. It is recommended to view the
bamboo grove while enjoying a bowl of matcha green tea at the quiet tea house "Kyukouan" located inside
Houkokuji Temple.
